"Iloveyou" viruses, also known as "Love Letter" viruses, were types of computer viruses that spread through email attachments, usually in the form of a love letter or a message of affection. The first known case of the virus was in 2000, when it infected millions of computers around the world, causing widespread damage. The virus was created by a Filipino student named Onel de Guzman, who was never convicted of any crime as there were no laws in the Philippines against virus writing at that time. The virus was written in Visual Basic Script and delivered via email, with the subject line "ILOVEYOU" and the attachment "LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.txt.vbs". Once opened, the virus would delete music and image files, spread itself to other email addresses in the user's address book, and even replace files on the infected computer. The Iloveyou virus caused an estimated $10 billion in damages worldwide and led to increased awareness about computer security and virus protection.
